Description

This was taken on the same night I took a previous photo I have put up on GFX: Daughter to Father Daughter to Father by  elvenearth

In this photo I was seeking to capture the energy of the Jive and the feelings it creates in the dancer of it. I wanted to capture that essence in one person, but also suggest the togetherness the experience can have with the couple in the background.

The description is not very convincing.

The capture leaves the girl with a chopped foot and part of a hand.
A ghost hand is grabbing her and trying to pull her out of the composition, or? :p

There is some reflected light on the floor and her dress causing some wierd color and overexposure.

This is not very solid I am afraid... ;)

She was dancing with someone else, so when I took the photo I tried to make sure he would not impact on the aim of the photo - as stated. This was actually pretty hard to do (for me anyway) considering how quickly everyone was moving around and the type of light and colour that was impacting on potential scenes. I actually like the look of this anyway.
The colours are all natural to the types of lighting used on the night - they reflect the atmosphere and energy and the interest I had in photographing this particular dancer. I feel that my description covers that at least adequately.

I do agree that the hands and feet are an issue. Obviously I would have liked to have not had this issue. Didn't quite come off on the night though, but I still like the photo. I like the mood of it and even much of the play of light and colours in it. Only my rather amateur opinion of course... :)

Pretty dancer.

There are many things that could be improved. If you add the EXIF, it will be easier to comment on your works. But even without:

First thing is composition of course, as mentioned by Patrick. You need to be further away from them, or simply go for a vertical frame. That would also leave the other couple out, and the sign by the wall which is distracting.

Exposure-wise: there are several burned highlight areas. You may need to under-expose. The highlight by her arm I would surely heal.

I would also change the white balance.

Very nice capture!.....I would crop the couple at the left.

I'm not an expert..Overall I like the photo - it's alive, I can feel the dance - but I don't like so much that you cut her hand and her leg + right side of the picture seems empty and doesn't add to composition - you can cut it a little. I like the lights :)

I quite like it. The lighting is interesting, sortof pops her out, shame about the foot and arm.

I agree with Carlos about cropping. The subject it is interesting and i like also the contrast on withe dress... anyway there are a lot of disturbing flight spot.
Difficult shot anyway... and good idea.

Good action, I must agree with the comments that suggest another crop.

I agree with Carlos and Androx3k. The other couple doesn't adds anything new to the compo.
